Why Essential Oils Make the Perfect Christmas Gift

Before we dive into gift ideas, let’s first talk about why essential oils are such a great option for Christmas. Essential oils are natural extracts from plants, often used for their therapeutic properties and healing qualities. From improving mental clarity and focus to calming anxiety and promoting relaxation, essential oils can help boost physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Here are a few reasons why essential oils make an excellent Christmas gift:

1. Aromatherapy for Wellness

Essential oils are commonly used in aromatherapy, a practice that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Whether someone is stressed, battling insomnia, or just looking to unwind, essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, and eucalyptus are perfect tools for relaxation and healing.

2. Eco-friendly and Sustainable

With increasing awareness of environmental impact, many people are making a conscious effort to purchase eco-friendly and sustainable products. Essential oils, especially those sourced from local producers in places like North Brisbane, are often crafted with sustainability in mind. They’re natural, biodegradable, and come in minimal packaging, making them a great choice for the eco-conscious gift giver.

3. Customisable for Everyone

Essential oils are incredibly versatile, and there is an oil for every need and person. Whether you’re shopping for someone who loves self-care, someone who needs a little extra relaxation, or someone who’s into natural beauty remedies, there is an essential oil blend that suits their preferences.

4. DIY Gift Sets

Essential oils provide endless possibilities for DIY gifts. You can create your own personalized blends and packaging for a one-of-a-kind present that feels both thoughtful and luxurious. Crafting your own essential oil gift sets can be an enjoyable process and a fantastic way to add a personal touch to your holiday gifts.

Christmas Gift Ideas Using Essential Oils

Now that we know why essential oils are such a great gift choice, let’s explore some fun, creative, and thoughtful gift ideas that incorporate essential oils from North Brisbane. Whether you want to create a luxurious pampering experience, help someone relax after a busy holiday season, or just give a gift that smells fantastic, we’ve got you covered.

1. DIY Essential Oil Diffuser Blends

Aromatherapy diffusers are one of the easiest and most effective ways to experience the benefits of essential oils. For Christmas, you can create a custom set of essential oil blends to be used in diffusers. Pick oils that will promote relaxation, joy, or even focus, depending on the recipient’s needs.

For example, you can create the following blends:

  • Christmas Spirit Blend: A festive combination of orange, cinnamon, and clove for a warm, inviting holiday scent.
  • Relaxation Blend: A calming mix of lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood to help unwind after a long day.
  • Energising Blend: A refreshing blend of peppermint, eucalyptus, and lemon to give a natural energy boost during the busy holiday season.

You can package the oils in small glass bottles, along with instructions on how to use them in a diffuser, and give them as a thoughtful and practical Christmas gift.

2. Essential Oil Bath Bombs

Bath bombs are an indulgent way to unwind, and when combined with essential oils, they can make bath time an even more soothing experience. Making your own bath bombs with essential oils is a great way to create a personalized gift that’s perfect for anyone who loves self-care.

You can make bath bombs using essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or frankincense, each chosen for its unique benefits. Lavender is calming and perfect for a pre-bedtime soak, while eucalyptus offers a refreshing, decongesting experience.

3. Essential Oil Roller Bottles

Essential oil roller bottles are a convenient way to carry your favourite oils around. They fit perfectly in handbags and can be applied directly to pulse points for quick relief from stress, anxiety, or fatigue. You can create your own essential oil roller bottles using carrier oils like jojoba or fractionated coconut oil as a base and then adding essential oils based on the recipient’s needs.

Some fun and thoughtful roller bottle ideas include:

You can package the roller bottles in small gift bags or boxes for a simple, yet thoughtful present.

4. Essential Oil Candles

Candles are a classic holiday gift, and when paired with essential oils, they become even more special. You can create your own candles by adding your favourite essential oils to beeswax or soy wax, allowing you to customize the scent to fit the season or the person you’re gifting it to.

Here are some ideas for essential oil-infused candle scents:

  • Cinnamon Spice Candle: A warm blend of cinnamon, clove, and orange that’s perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere.
  • Relaxing Lavender Candle: A soothing and calming fragrance ideal for winding down after a busy day.
  • Peppermint and Eucalyptus Candle: A refreshing scent combination that’s perfect for the summer months in Brisbane.

Making your own candles adds a personal touch, and your friends and family will appreciate the effort you put into crafting their gift.

5. Essential Oil Skincare Products

Essential oils can be a wonderful addition to skincare products, as they offer natural benefits for the skin. For a more luxurious Christmas gift, consider creating your own skincare line-up using essential oils.

Some ideas include:

  • DIY Face Serums: Using carrier oils like coconut oil or argan oil, you can add a few drops of essential oils like lavender or tea tree to create a rejuvenating face serum.
  • Body Scrubs: Mix essential oils with sugar or salt and a carrier oil to create a natural exfoliating scrub. Choose oils like peppermint for a refreshing scrub or lavender for a soothing experience.
  • Lip Balms: A combination of beeswax, coconut oil, and essential oils like vanilla or citrus bliss can create a beautiful, natural lip balm.

These skincare products can be beautifully packaged in glass jars or tins, making them perfect for gifting.

6. Essential Oil Massage Oils

If you know someone who loves massages or self-care rituals, creating a special essential oil massage oil blend is a great way to offer relaxation and rejuvenation. Combine carrier oils like sweet almond oil or coconut oil with essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, or ginger to create a soothing massage oil.

This gift is perfect for someone who enjoys relaxation and self-care and will appreciate the thoughtfulness behind it.

7. Personalised Essential Oil Gift Sets

If you’re unsure what oils your friends or family might like, create a custom essential oil gift set. You can select a few essential oils that are known for their universal appeal, such as lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint, and package them in a beautiful gift box or basket.

To make the gift set even more special, include items like a diffuser, roller bottles, or bath salts. Add a personal touch by creating a small guide explaining how each oil can be used. For example, lavender can be used to help with sleep, while peppermint can invigorate and refresh the senses.

Recycle your empty doterra containers

Recycle your empty doterra containers

This comes from a dōTERRA lady, and friend in dōTERRA who says “its part of our duty of service to help people to reduce their environmental impact”. dōTERRA does a lot by using recycled materials but we can do more.

Other tips: You can reuse the pouches – shampoo/conditioner/US abōde cleaning range refill pouches etc. The labels aren’t removable unfortunately but you can just put your own label on the top. They are perfect for filling with water and freezing to use as freezer packs in lunch boxes or esky’s.  re-label or write in waterproof texta pens. The ziplock top pouches such as the Easy Air and On Guard Drops pouches can be reused for taking damp face cloths to sport events, in the car, for picnics etc. Just grab a facecloth, wet it and squeeze out a bit, pop into the bag and take. You can also cool it in the fridge for hot days.

hand and body lotion spa rose and citrus

At a pinch, you could also reuse the Hand and Body Lotion tubes (they’re the largest of the tubes) to make plant watering things. Snip the bottom off, cut the lid off, then push the top into the soil and fill with water. It’ll gradually water the plants – like those water bottle stakes you can get to put onto plastic water bottles. Haven’t actually tried this but the concept works in my head. It would only do for a few days tho, not extended time away.

The supplement bottles etc can be repurposed as pantry storage especially for camping, etc. Just remove the label, and fill with spices, label and store. Hello great herbs and spice bottles – being opaque, the spices etc won’t degrade as quickly as they do in clear containers. Tip: make up your own spice mixes and rubs. For example, I like to make curries etc with Tandoori Spice Paste I make in my Thermomix. However, it’s not ideal to take away on holidays as it needs to be stored in the fridge or freezer after making. So, I’ve worked out how to make up just the spice mix – grind up the spices and store in a repurposed supplement bottle. Then all I need to do is add the garlic and ginger and some tomato paste and blitz up to make the paste when I need it. Yes, I do often take my Thermomix with me when I travel.

The Veràge skin care range can partly be reused. The face wash is hard cos of the lid. However, the toner spray bottle can be turned into any sort of spray – it’s such a pretty colour. The label doesn’t come off but you can decorate it with washi tape or vinyl – it’s such a pretty base colour and I love the gold lid. The serum pump can be reused as well. Again label doesn’t come off but you can make your own serum to put into it. Relabel as above. You can also use it to make a hand sanitiser gel – ideal car or handbag size.

Lifelong Vitality Pack Doterra

Repurpose the Body Butter, Body Scrub, and Yarrow|Pom Beauty Capsule jars for bath salts for gifts and for storage. I store small objects like beads in them. The YP ones in particular are great for homemade sunscreen and taking smaller amounts of Body Butter/Scrub or homemade butter/scrub away on holidays or to give as gifts. Let’s face it, once someone uses the Body Butter, they’re gonna want to buy more. It’s fabulous. They can also be used to take tea/coffee/sugar away on short trips, picnics etc.

Doterra Verage Skin Care Collection

The Daily Moisturiser pump can also be reused to make your own moisturiser or hand sanitiser or whatever. You could also use it as a stain remove by filling with some OGCC to then pump a bit onto a stain and massage in. Hope they help. I’m sure I’ll come up with more if I sit and think long enough but you get the picture. I challenge you next time you’re faced with an empty whatever to stop before throwing it away and ask yourself “what can I do with this?”.

Dilution guide for essential oils

Dilution guide for essential oils

I am often asked about dilution.  Because of the potency and purity of these oils, dilution will be necessary this is great as it means your oils will last longer and be able to be applied to your skin.

Different oils have a warming or cooling effects on the skins such as oregano, or peppermint.  This can feel like a burning sensation on sensitive skin so always dilute and test before applying.  Whereas other oils such as Lavender are more soothing to the skin, and can be used with little or no dilution depending on age, and area of the body.

Other things to consider with oil blends are the sun sensitive oils (Citrus) that can amplify the effects of the sun and cause burning if used on the skin before sun expose.

Dilution Applications - Adults - Children

Please keep in mind these charts are only a guideline to follow. When counting drops I tend to get that stubborn drop that won’t come out and then 2 drops come out It’s OK if your blend does not have the exact drops the chart is recommending (remember it is a guideline). Essential oil drops are really an inaccurate measure because the viscosity differs in oils and not all droppers used are the exact same, meaning drops are not a uniform measurement. So again, these are guidelines.

Emotional Support – Oil of Gladness

Emotional Support – Oil of Gladness

Some days are easy and some days are hard, but some days you really need emotional support.

Today is one of those days for me.  I am just feeling really fragile for no real reason.   I received some criticism, (for something that wasn’t my fault) and I’ve felt terrible all day.  My life is pretty good, I can’t complain.  I work from home, all my needs met, I’m doing well and today I even got to watch my two eldest daughters receive some well deserved awards for school achievement. That didn’t stop that nagging gut feeling, that was bringing me down.

Why such a small thing could get me down is beyond my comprehension, it’s not my normal, but here I am hours later thinking any moment I could cry if I think about it for more than 3 seconds.   The person even called me, to admit it was in fact his fault for not communicating the details after making an exception to usual procedures.  But still I feel low.  this is very out of character for me, I have even prayed for comfort.

The LORD works in mysterious ways.

So I turned to essential oils.  A quick check in a book/app for oils to use and I’m reaching for the diffuser.   Clary Sage, Lavender, Lemon and Lime to the rescue. I put these oils in the diffuser, but later decided to make up a 10mL roller with this same blend.  I also decided to treat myself to a pot of tea in a special set a friend gave me.  After an hour sitting here with the diffuser, It has really lifted my spirits and I and feel the frowns line leaving.

Is it time for you to do some self care today?
